Light Switch Into An Outlet??

Is there a way to turn a light switch that is no longer used into an outlet? How tough is this. The light that the switch controlled before is now controlled by a differant switch. But where the old switch is, i need an outlet. figured it would save time if there was a safe way to convert.

If you have a neutral pigtailed through the box, then you should be able to cap the light leg, and use the 'hot' and neutral for a new outlet.

If you don't have a neutral, then I am afraid you are out of luck for a simple solution.

Is this for a bathroom? ...only asking because the outlet would be the same height as the switch; makes sense over a vanity, but you would want a gfci for it, of course.

Also, ... oh never mind. Too many things to cover with the information provided.

Take care.

More info needed. Romex-Conduit, number of wires present, color of wires present, was it a three-way switch, will the person working on it be wearing a hat? It can always be done, it's just a matter of how much work it will be.

One of those wires going to the switch may very well be white and go back to a place where it could easily be hooked up to a neutral and the switch converted to an outlet.
