Light Fixture

Can anyone explain this? I had to trouble shoot a 175w 120v metal halide fixture. It worked fine on the work bench with a pig tail to test it but would not fire off when mounted to the building. The only difference in applications was the pig tail didn't have a ground. I isolated the ground at the fixture and now it works fine but I have no ground protection. Any suggestions?

None. It was a used fixture a customer wanted installed and it worked fine for a few days with a ground then nothing. Making it work ungrounded was purely accidental. I'm very reluctant to leave it that way and am stumped why the elimination of the ground made it work.

Re: Light Fixture

Did you check voltages to ground? between hot and neutral, hot and ground and even neutral to ground?
