Inspector
To All,
I have to change 125 amps main breaker because of it defective. The local power company has to turn power off. But before it turn back on. The new main breaker has to be inspected by the city. Is that the same for you guys. Your replies are wellcome. I'm in California. Louis

Re: Inspector
I'm in NY and it's pretty much the same here. Although I can replace a meter socket without an inspection and the poco will re-energize.

Re: Inspector
Up here in the northeast it would be considered a "system mainenance " issue and no inspection is required. I just replaced a 1200 amp one not to long ago at 1 AM. Nobody at city hall was interested AT ALL in what I was doing. It did take a little convincing to get a line crew to shut down the service at 1 AM in the morning though.

Re: Inspector
Here in the Sacramento area of California, every jurisdiction I deal with requires a permit. Most of them will respond 24/7 particularly in the County of Sacrmento. The fees very. The fee is based on your valuation. Usually less than a thousand dollar valuation, your permit fee would be less than $100.

Re: Inspector
Out here we don't have state licensing, so every township has some opinion about what you should do [and a license (and appropriate fee) to go with it]
They will eviscerate you if you don't have a license, but everyone here views a main changeout as maintenance and NOBODY requires a permit or inspection [what do they think they are they looking at, anyway?], but if you change the cable because it is damaged because the lug was loose, they want a permit AND inspection. [We have mostly licensed third-party inspection agencies.] And if you do the work BEFORE you get a permit, the fee is double, even in an emergency [so punish the homeowner because his panel blew up after hours ... he should have scheduled his problem better] Some places you need a permit, and they don't CARE if it gets inspected. Screwy, huh? |
