I got the job!

My first ever electrical job. I am going to be an apprentice with a sponsorship to attend school. I am going to start 10/22 and start at $10 and hour but will go up to $11.50 an hour after I start school.

Are you saying that a sales rep gave you "special treatment"? If so, she probably says that to all the boys.

Congratulations on the new job. Hope you do well and prosper in this endeavor. I remember when I first started. I had to pay for my school. I have not regretted it yet.

Congratulations.

I'm curious to know how you go the job? That is, was it a classified ad? Cold call? etc..

Well the advertised on careerbuilder but that isn't where I first heard from the job.

I found out about the job and was recommended by IEC (independent electrical contractors) I was HIGHLY recomended and took my own intitive to take an entrance exam BEFORE the employer took it. Which by the way I was told was very impressive on my part.

Sorry to brag I am just very excited. The only thing is I have to wait 2 weeks to start on a new job..

Cool.

Resist the urge to party the night before. Don't wanna show up on your first day smelling like the bar.

Congratulations, now I will be an old crab and give you my $.02. Keep your mouth closed and your eyes and ears open. Show up a tad early with proper attire and boots. Dont wear the sagging jeans type clothes. If you look the part to people on the job they will feel more at ease dealing with you. Best of luck. And buy Klein.

Right! Look like a man, and you'll be treated like one. Look like a punk, and you're in for a rough row to hoe.

Also, I was told that eventually I will be able to work on a hospital project and was told that this is the top of the top in electrician work.

Is this correct?

I guess it's all a matter of opinion(I suspect AGP is just really excited about winning this contract, and may possibly be the most complex job they've done)
Here in Salt Lake we just finished the biggest/best hospital this side of the Mississip. I had a couple buddy's on the project and others from school on the project, they all hated it. One buddy complained about spending 2 years on one floor, the other complained about spending 2 years doing parking lot lights and outdoor stuff.

I understand. I was told it was the best because it is challenging and interested where as residental is very boring.

There are many jobs that are top of the top, it does depend on perspective. I like working on spec/build and R&D projects. Hospitals are fun, not as serious as nuclear power plants and cogens. Goverment work can also be a break from boredom.
