How To Work A Resi Tester? Phone, Cable, Network??

Hi, I just bought a new resi-tester from Fry's Electronics and have no idea on how to use it??
I tried reading the directions with no avail.
I'm a beginning electrician down here in Sacramento, CA.

Can somebody tell me how I'm supposed to use this thing to test phone lines, cable runs, network cable etc..
I'm really interested in learning how to test phone lines so please elaborate on that.

Thanks, John A.

Sorry, old address. Try lisat@arrowcom.com I just pull her up in my address book.
Is technology great or what? We e-mail each other with nothing but a wall between us. She calls my cell phone from the house phone when we are both in the house. What's coming next? LOL
