How Many Outlets Or Recepticles On A Circuit??
I know Ive read many times on these forums that there is no limit to receps on a resi circuit but i was in class the other night and the instructor, who was an inspector in 3 states, cited article 220.14 (i) and insisted that only 8 are allowed on a 15 amp and 12 on a 20.

The EI needs to keep reading (i) until directed to apply (j) [as precision detailed]

Re: How Many Outlets Or Recepticles On A Circuit??
Agreed this is not for residential applications..only commercial and industrial Gen Purpose outlets.
220.14(j) being the correct exception to the (I) article. "Also i was wondering where the article is that limits the outlets on commercial " Article 220.14(I) IS the article that limits unknown or Gen purpose outlets for commercial applications... "(I) Receptacle Outlets. Except as covered in 220.14(J) and (K), receptacle outlets shall be calculated at not less than 180 volt-amperes for each single or for each multiple receptacle on one yoke." |
