Re: Hot Water Tank
Cap the white wire on both ends and wire the rest as color to color.
Maak sure the black and red are on a double pole breaker of the right amperge.

And if I could add to that.... make absolutely certain that a good ground bond is formed to the frame of the WH.

Re: Hot Water Tank
this will sound dumb,( hence the name laybrick, not lay electric) but , is it possible to tap into an existing 220 line ?

Re: Hot Water Tank
For what reason would you want to tap into the circuit? I'm gonna have to say no, don't tap into it. Especially since you'll be capping the neutral and will not have 120 volts to ground for an receptacle or whatever. And... the 220 volt line you have now is probably just good enough to handle the load for the WH, and nothing else.

Re: Hot Water Tank
I am not understanding part of this picture.
I had thought you were doing a direct replacement of an existing hot water tank. What 220 line are you wanting to use for your hot water? |

Re: Hot Water Tank
from propane to electric. The wire goes to a seperate little breaker box upstairs. The box runs lights & plugs upstairs, wich won't hardly get used
