Home Depot Halide Swap Out.

I see at least one on the area HD's swaped their halides for high bay fluorescents. Looks like fixture for fixture and maybe a 10 or a 12 lamp fluorescent. It's hard to count because they are soo bright. This is the first I've seen of retailers doing the swap. Just wondering if it might be a national trend?? I wouldn't mind getting in on some of the local action.

Re: Home Depot Halide Swap Out.

Yesterday evening there was a contractor from Boston doing a lighting upgrade in my small town grocery store, which is many hundreds of miles from Boston. I have a feeling this large scale lighting upgrade stuff is being done by national contractors who have a niche in that sort of thing.

The ones out here (LA) did it at least a year ago maybe even two.

The HD in my area , Pittsburgh East, switched about 2 months ago. You can actually see in there now.

It's all a matter of keeping costs down. Sure it'll cost a fortune to wire and install the new lights, but they'll pay off after the first year or so, or even less than that.

Re: Home Depot Halide Swap Out.

These retrofits would be a great gig if you can get them. One guy could probably do 20 lights a day, and the average HD has what 150 lights. The issue would be working after hours and your guys may not appreciate that.
We've done retro's with bonuses in the past where you still get your /hr wage plus some dollar amount more if you can do more than a very easy quota per day.
This expedience incentive is only brought on by the store wanting the project done that quickly.

Oh, and high bays have 6 lamps, but good reflectors that can make them appear as 3 times as many from the right angle

These were t-8 8ft fixtures. Looked like at least 8 lamps but regardless at 6 or 8 that should be a saving of $1700/ month @ 7 cents/ kw... Maybe they can fix the wheels on the carts and/or hire an extra person.

Last time I was in Walnutmart they had halides too. HD probably doesn't care about color rendering but I would think Wally's would maybe. We did a little work for a national organic healthfood market last year and they loved the chit out of their halides and the mr16's. Used enough juice to light a third world country. They had signs all over the place telling how "eco friendly" they were. I guess the average hippy never sees the meters spinning at 4000 rpm's.
