High Bay ballast change outs

On high bay light fixtures when the ballast goes bad is there access to get at the ballast instead of taking the hole fixture down? These fixtures are hanged with the down rod pole and knob from the box it self like the ceiling fans.

I guess your talking halides or mercs. I've chaned a bunch and always take them down to a bench because there is usually a universal mounting kit for all the different sizes and there is the capacitor and the other part that i can't remember right now.I think the'd be a bear to do in the air.

I never take them down from the ceiling canopy. They are usually too high to be practical. Many I encounter have stems over 6' long.

I take the fixture off at the bracket/housing on top of the body and then bring it to the ground to change the ballast kit.
