Help On Subs Price

I had a new electric sub do some work for me hooking up a new sky lite in the unfinished attic to an existing outlet about 12' away.

He gave me an itemized bill of
Materials
2.22
0.60
0.15
0.20
0.60
0.57

Two men, two hours each 4x $67.50 = 270 for a grand total of 274.34

I have ZERO problem with the total price just baffled at how he billed out. Does it really take 4 man hours to run 12' of wire across an open attic that is accessible by stairs? He had no minimum charge either he just bills by the hour. Again I have no problem with the price or the quality of the work, just worried about if he does future jobs if this is an indication that they work very slow.

4 hours usually is the minimum charge. He may not have explained it to you but he damn sure got paid for it

Re: Help On Subs Price

The job seems simple enough and as you said shouldn't take 4 man hours.

However, maybe he added in some travel time. Or, maybe with the travel time the total job took say, 65 minutes and that extra five minutes got billed as an hour.

Does he know anything about markup on parts? Or worse yet, was that the parts prices after markup.

I doubt it he had things listed such as "3 romex connector $0.20 ea" "1 machine thread grounding screw $0.15"

how can it be at all feasible to figure out every little screw. Maybe thats why it took 4 hours, they had to inventory the whole truck when they were done i dunno

Re: Help On Subs Price

4 hours is the minimum because as a sub your trying to get paid for an 8 hour day.

You usually break up your day in 4 hour segments. unless it is a day or multiple day project.

So 4 hours at Patrick's eat lunch and 4 hours or more at the next job.

Two hours to do that job really doesn't sound bad to me. The hourly rate is about the same as here as well. Most guys will give you a price on bigger jobs but stuff like that they will bill their hourly rates

Why don't you ask him?

Again, I think you need to ask him how he is pricing his jobs. Unless you are going to do competive bids on every little thing you need to know how he works if calling him means a minimum 4 hour charge every time you need to know that. If you are going to bid everything out then it doesn't matter since he can figure it anyway he wants to since his bottom number is what is going to be compared.

That's probably a good guess. I worked for a company like that and everything (AND I MEAN EVERYTHING!!) was itemized.
