"Green Is Some Kind Of Safety Ground.."

A guy posted this in another forum as a response to someone who wanted to hook up a timer to a bathroom fan.

Quote:
i would guess that the white is positive and the black is negative. red is positive. black is negative. green some kind of safety ground. i guess that might go to ground. i thought there are 3 wires in house wiring where one wire is grounded to the metal box. anyway, postive goes to postive and negative goes to negative. ground goes to ground.

id turn off the power before doing this. stand on a rubber mat and wear poly gloves. try to work with one hand. you dont want the current going through your heart. i guarantee you are going to get a shock no matter how you do this.
He got a lot of ridicule over it and was basically told never to post in response to an electrical question ever again.

I found it.

What an ARROGANT JERK. He could not admit he was a retard. Even so much that he touted his "straight A+'s".

Here is one reply to him. This one is up for post of the year IMO:

Turns the power off, stands on a rubber mat and works one-handed with gloves on? That's a freakin' riot!!!

How much you wanna bet he does it in the dark, too?

Is that a good thing?
Or not?

I like that he says to turn the power off, then says that you will definitely get a shock doing this. Says a lot about his electrical skills, and his past experience working on electricity...

What a clown

Sounds like the guy might know how to hook up a car stereo. I would add that the green can also be hooked up to the "positive" and that I have personally seen some of his work in some homes out this way.

Someone provide a link to the post.

I used to get service calls from guys like this who turned off the main breaker before doing the electrical work. $75 to turn on a main breaker plus repairing their "work".
