Don't see why not as long as it's done to code inside the boxes. Why is it a bad idea mdshunk?

Because someone saying "I'm not an electrician", and asking a DIY question makes it a bad idea to tackle this. He said that all advice was appreciated, and that's mine for this case.

You'll need to trace out everything that's on the circuit you want to tie into to make sure you don't overload the circuit. Then, once you know of everything that's on the circuit, you'll need to amprobe the line and decide wether or not the circuit needs to be derated for ambient temperature.

Are you sure your grounding electrode system is producing not more than 25 ohms resistance? That's important to know before doing any remodel lighting projects because you'll never know when a lightning storm will hit and you'll need to be protected.

Anyway, Good luck!

I don't have time to walk you through it, but here's a short video that will explain it all in simple terms:

I love that video, and am stealing it so you know

Oh and paint an electricians house or few rooms, and he'll happily install the cans for you. I for one hate painting. Oh and the square footage and number of rooms doesn't really help.
