Exterior Landscape Lighting

Going to install some exterior low voltage lighting, wondering if I can have it controlled by a switch in the house? All the kits I have found have timers included, is this better than by a switch?. Also, can I put the transformer in the house.

Absolutely.
It's a matter of personal preference. Many people are creating a "scene" with landscape lighting, and it is as much to "ooh and ahh" the public as it is for them. They need it on during certain hours every day. If you only want them on as needed, a wall switch is okay.
Most low voltage landscape lighting transformers are rated for outdoor use only. You need to buy your own transformer rated for indoors at whatever the operating voltage is if you want to mount it inside.
