Exaust Fan In Bath W/GFI Protection
Wouldn't it make more since to protect an exhaust fan in the shower thru a GFI receptacle rather than protect the whole bath circuit thru a GFI breaker. if the breaker trips the lights will also go out and this can still pose a threat of tripping and falling at night time or if there are no windows in the bath for light. if the GFI receptacle trips the lights stay on. What say you.

Re: Exaust Fan In Bath W/GFI Protection
The argument for using a GFCI CB goes like this:
It protects the ENTIRE circuit. The argument against the GFCI CB goes like this: CB's cost more than devices. In either case, if the fan/light combo requires GFCI protection and the GFCI trips - you'll be in the dark. If there is another source of light in the bathroom (vanity perhaps), it could be on a general purpose circuit and that light would remain on.

Re: Exaust Fan In Bath W/GFI Protection
Taint so hard to wire the circuit separately, light and fan. It is ALWAYS best to have a fan that work independently from the light. Why? No need to burn a light while evacuating a bathroom of the gathered gloom post-deposit. Why I mean is that you can leave the fan to run after sittin' without wasting unused light.

Re: Exaust Fan In Bath W/GFI Protection
20 years ago I lived in a 2 story house that had the bathrooms on a gfci breaker and it would trip on a semi regular basis. There is no joy like going downstairs and into the garage on a cold night to reset a CB that could have been protected by a local gfci receptacle. Since then I use the gfci receptacles in the room it is protecting.
