The End Of The Electric Plug?

And I was just thinking about replacing my job
site power cords. Anyone else heard of this?

Don't worry, the state of California will find this out in five.

Scientists have known for nearly two centuries that it is possible to transfer an electrical current from one coil of wire to another without them touching.
SHOCKING!

I'm with the other guys. I'm not too concerned about it. Seems a long way off. But it does give us all something to think about.

Re: The End Of The Electric Plug?

Tesla proposed this 100 years ago. It's very feasable to send electricity over the earth or the air. It's not really that new or novel. The MIT thing is just a new twist on an old idea. It's not very efficient for large scale use, but might be neat for odd little gadgets and such for the time being. It takes almost 200 watts of input energy to power that 60 watt lamp in their demonstration. The "Wi-Tricity" generator in their demonstration was a big honking copper coil about 2 feet square.

Five years, I don't think so.The state of California knows long before any product is even manufactured or used that it "had been proven to cause cancer or birth defects in laboratory animals".

I didn't look up the specifics but md's right. I believe that Tesla lit up a house at considerable range.

Spend some time researching Tesla; the man was a bit wacked, and so far out there that no one really seemed to know what he could, or did do. But, his ideas were amazing- and if some of the stuff is true... wow!

I still struggle to wrap my mind around the sending electricity thru the air thing...

Re: The End Of The Electric Plug?

Yea... but that's a large, direct, violent current that damages the receiving end.

I'm a decent carpenter, and an OK landscaper, and an OK mason- I'm no electrical engineer! This is totally over my head, I'll be honest. I read just about everything related to Tesla on Wikipedia a few months ago after my interest was piqued watching The Prestige, and was impressed, but only slightly enlightened.
