I bet alot of that is illegal utility theft. I have seen gruesome graphic photos of electrocutions on Ogrish.com of people attempting to steal electrical power over there.

That wiring jungle is one of the reasons all businesses have an on site backup. That is the reason you always have a good line when looking for technical support and never get cut off. Keeping a business working is a prime Indian requirement.

Not exactly.

First the poles can't fall over and with all the back up redundcy you never lose a connection. It's a Win Win!!!

The poles are safe from the cars...those rust buckets would self-incinerate on contact ....now IF a herd of angry elephants decide to run amok ...well, that's another issue

They do not have many fires. They are not backward and use masonry instead of wood. Just a few examples of current construction for the rest of India's middle class.
