Electric Drop On Rake

Question, I am doing a small one story cottage/house for a customer and their electric drop attaches at the peak of the rake, runs down the rake about 8 feet and then down the side of the house to the meter. Currently there is no soffit/overhang on the gables. Part of the job will be adding a 12" soffit/overhang. Because the drop is low to begin with I don't think there is anyway for it to be lowered to go under the soffit and attach to the wall. If the drop must be attached to the new extended rake how the does the service wire make its way to the meter box? (because of the new 12" soffit) The only other way i have seen this done was a goose neck sticking up through the roof with conduit down to the meter.) Don't worry I HAVE NOTHING to do with this the HO is taking care of hiring the proper people I'm just curious as to how this would be dealt with. Thanks

You'll probably end up with a "mast service" or "periscope service", going through the overhang with rigid metal conduit. The service drop has to be at least 12' off grade. The only other option is to move the point of attachment up nearer the peak of the gable end, and run the service from there down to the meter. A picture sure would help.

No sweat. Move the house knob and the service cable from the face board to the gable wall. Basically keeping it the way it is, except off the fascia and onto the gable end.

So is that normal to just have the new wire going from the drop to the meter just draped across the bottom of the soffit? I told him to bury it but that was not gonna fly $$$$$$$$$

I don't know what you mean by "draped". You strap it up with service cable straps, normally about every 30" or so for good looks.

Re: Electric Drop On Rake

the wires must stay outside the house from the meter to the weather head, or be run in a mast of rigid conduit.

You cannot run them inside the structure from WH to meter.
