Question

Double GFCI Problem Or No?

Okay here's an odd querry.

Purchased a low end pressure washer recently that has what I believe to be an in-line GFCI on the end of the cord it plugs in with.

Here's the question: Somewhere along the way I could have sworn I heard someplace that you should not have 2 GFCI's working with one another.

Does that apply in this instance?

In other words, can I plug in the pressure washer to a GFCI outlet (by it's GFCI cord) or is that a bad idea?

If it IS a bad idea can you explain iin toddler language why 2 gfci's together are a bad idea? ie: cancel each other out etc.

Re: Double GFCI Problem Or No?

I know of no reason why you cannot plug a moulded GFCI attachment cord into a GFCI receptacle. In fact, I see guys on jobsites plugging up their GFCI extension cords into the GFCI receptacle on the T-Pole all the time, and it seems to cause no issues. Your protection is not doubled, but it is certainly not reduced. If your pressure washer gets the abuse that most do, your GFCI plug will be cut off in a few years and a regular cord cap will eventually be installed.

Kind of an overkill, but it should give you absolutely no problems.
