Dining Room Ceiling Fan

Can anyone see a reason for or against installing a ceiling fan in an eat in kitchen/dining area that has a gas stove.

When they built the house 10 or so years ago the builder told them it could not be done because of the gas stove.

This question has never come up and I would like to know your thoughts.

Re: Dining Room Ceiling Fan

The only reason I can see for not doing this has nothing to do with whether the stove is gas or not. My reason would be because the fan will collect grease from cooking and be very difficult to keep clean.

Nice to see you here Keith.

I have put a CF in the kitchen(all w/gas stoves) of every home I've lived in w/o any issues.

If grease on the fan is a concern....maybe one should consider changing their diet

Thanks Celtic.
I have seen more grease changing out light fixtures than i would worry about the grease on the fan.
I will pass it on and install him a fan!

If the fans on high .......some one cooks bacon while the dishwashers on rinse cycle .........then another flushes the upstairs bathroom at the same time that the soil pipe fitting in the cabinet soffit comes loose ........ the door to dishwasher pops open ........bacon grease lubing it's path .........The ***** can really hit the fan.

Just make sure the CF is listed for use in greasy kitchens.

Does anyone think it has something to do with the fan blowing pilot lights out on the range? (I'm trying to think of why he would say no)

Maybe blowing the lighter out while trying to get a bong hit....most of today's stove's have an electric assisted igniter...for the ones w/o the igniter - should we also close all the windows so the pilot stays lit? Oh wait, that would create a carbon situation....back to the tents, caves, and campfires

Other than the fact that ceiling fans in kitchens and DRs are HIDEOUS, no I see nothing against it.

We have one in the middle of our kitchen, at the special request of my wife. I'll tell her you said she has hideous taste.

(Come to think of it, we have a gas range too. No problems in that regard.)

In the DR?
No way!

This house I am in now, is under going a "live-in renovation"....everything takes 10x longer than normal ...the kitchen CF is there ONLY because the house lacks CAC ~ that's next year's project...along with decks and all things outdoor.

There is no accounting for taste. I have installed many ugly lights and fans in my time

Re: Dining Room Ceiling Fan

I do it and see it done all of the time. md hasn't brought up any malicious codes so I'll guess that it's OK.

Everybody has ceiling fans everywhere here, especially in the kitchen. Before A/C, it's all that there was. Kitchens used to be detached from the house to keep the heat away.

Barbequing can help keep your home cool and comfortable, keeping your oven or stove off for the evening.

Re: Dining Room Ceiling Fan

Grilling/smoking/BBQ is what we do most of the summer. Why pay to heat up the house and pay to remove it (A/C)?
