Conduit Layout...

This tool has been out for several years now. I just thought I'd pass the word again, in case you don't have one yet (you should, since it's only a few bucks). Here's a link to the video:

Re: Conduit Layout...

Pretty slick tool, but I guess I gotta figure in the amount of time it takes to layout a can with the multifuntional square I already have versus the amount of time I'd save with this gizmo (plus having to carry around another 'gizmo').

What is the spacing on 3/4s anyway? I always lay them out with 1 1/2" spacing on centers(think that looks best). In fact I put 1.5" marks all the way across the can then a line at 1 5/8 for 3/4s (because that's usually the only thing coming out of the top), or mark differently in the local area if it's a top fed or in the rare occasion that larger pipes are needed.

If the next trade show is handing them out, I'll definetly pick one up.

Who is that a picture of anyway? Kinda looks like Pauly Shore?

Yeah, you're right. Old farts like you should stick with what you've already become efficient at. Us young wipper snappers like gadgets. This one's a no-brainer for me.

Spacing? I dunno... I laminated a chart that the US Iron and Steel institute put out maybe 20 years ago for conduit spacing that I keep in my knockout cutter box. That's what I use. Maybe I'll scan it in and post it here. That information isn't on the net anywhere, near as I can figure. I'm sure it would be helpful.

HaHa didn't know 27 constitutes as Old Fart in this new day in age, do see what you're saying though, had some old guy the other day swear to me that using channel locks was better than a Klein a 'reamer'.

Though I didn't think about carrying it around in my "slug buster" kit, that's a real good idea.

I would like to see that laminate, I'd like to see what spacing they suggest

And finally a picture of Pete, guess he does loosen up from time to time

Well, truthfully I'd have guessed you at 50. I suppose it's the "union" coming out of you. I don't care either way. I was union for a period of time, and now I am not. I get where you are coming from most of the time, though I do not necessarily agree. Just a difference of upbringing, so-to-speak. Carry on, brother.

I'm come from southern CA which is a place I hear you don't agree with to begin with, so there you go.

And I'm guessing you didn't do your schooling with the union? or at least not at a tough union time like we have now.

No Pete this is not another "union discussion", I know how you like to get all excited about those

I got hired as a 4th year, so no; for the most part. That was a long time ago. I fit in, for the most part. I started to have some more fundamental objections to working for a political machine. Plus, not knowing who you'd be working for when a particular project finished up was stress I was not equipped to handle.

See because all of first year is "how great it is to be union", then it mellows out.

I've never been layed off nor furloughed, rather asked the folks in charge to leave when I was where I didn't want to be. Been with current contractor 18 months, put in a van this week, which is a record at 3.5 years of 5 year apprenticeship, guess I could blame it on the busy times though. But I have no fears of when times slow down, nor of success if I choose a different contractor.

And I gotta say oour vans are very neat(clean), would post a pic, except our digital camera broke mid way through vacation 3 weeks ago("vacation" another benefit of being union )

Never experienced the 'political machine' never even been to a union meeting, I'd rather just got to work and the 'company' parties.

Re: Conduit Layout...

Our shop has the Maxis 3000 puller, and that is really nice to have around. Although we did snap the pin that links the drill to the gear box last summer, replaced it with an 8/32 and it's been going strong since.

So aren't you gonna tell who's face that is in the picture?

Cruise some mug shots to see what you come up with.

It's not me. If I had messy hair, it is a spitting image of me, however. They say everyone has a twin. I've usually got a 5 o'clock shadow, sorta like that picture, too.

It makes no difference what you call me. At the end of the day, I'm still Marc.
