condenser wireing

I have a homeowner who wants his a/c moved 20 ft from where it is.building a deck.the only way i see is to reroute lineset and wireing is from under ground. Is it acceptable to wire nut in from the existing disconnect box a new high voltage line that is of course protected in under ground conduit.I normally would run a new line from the panel box but in this case it is very diffacult.

What size is the wire? It would be crazy to split bolt anything smaller than #6. Even two #6's can fit in a large blue wire nut.

Article 312.8 of the 2002 NEC allows you to splice these condutors in the disconnect. Be sure to size the conductors to the minimum ciruit ampacity shown on the label on the unit.
