Question Burnt G F I

I have never seen this befor and ddon't want to again . I was checking out the low voltage landscape lights on my house and after checkinking bukbs and wires I checked the transformer the GFI was melted and the plug on the transformer was blackened . I changed the GFI and tryed the transformer in on another line it works fine then i pluged it in to the GFI and everything works . I cant figure it out any ideas

Maybe it got wet or the plug was loose in the receptical.

As has been explained to me, GFI's are not foolproof, circuit breakers are less likely to blow as a fuse when there is a short.

thanks

I was kind of leaning toward the wet it is mounted under a deck for the last 9 years in a water proof ( i thought ) box i replaced it and built a casing on top to keep snow / rain from going directly on it . I thank you for the input . :thumbs up:

That is pretty scary, I would look at it again after the the lights have been on for an hour or 2 and just feel if the plug or the gfi is hot

The standard weatherproof cover is only weatherproof if the cover is closed!! Do you have a "bubble cover" ( in use cover) on this? Also check out Sparky Joes's suggestion.

It happens once in a while. Probably got wet. I've seen dry ones "cook" that were installed outdoors.
