Asbestos siding ??
I have to drill a few holes this week through some of that old asbestos shingle siding. I'm thinking of shooting out with like a regular 1/8 drill bit and then going from the outside in with like a 1-1/4 hole saw. Does that sound about right??? I know thse shingles break easily but I see there are other holes drill through. Thanks..

You will absolutely clean the teeth right off a regular hole saw. Trust me, I've tried. Whatever bit you use for your pilot/locator will be unsuitable for normal use when you're done with it without sharpening. Resist the urget to click the drill onto "hammer" for the pilot hole. Like you say, these shingles are easy to crack. There's only two ways to get a hole in asbestos siding. RemGrit hole saw or RotoZip with a tile bit. Oh, yeah. One more thing. It would be good to figure out a way to not breathe while you're doing it.

Keep it wet(spray bottle or whatnot)
and treat it like Hardi.
Same stuff, just with extra treats
inside.
K2, the appeal is the same as Hardi
is today.The marketing was remarkably
similar.
Someone posted one of the old sales
pitches last winter, maybe md
remembers who,what,when?

asbestos is awesome. It's SOOO green. A natural mineral. I love it. Asbestos is bad like fluoride is good. If ya don't get the fibers in your lungs, its the best fire resistant material on Earth.

Like said above a holesaw does not work the best. I have used them in the past but i always charged the customer for a new bit. There usually isnt anything left of the teeth when your done. Spraying the siding with water helps keep the dust down and the bit will last longer too. I would compare this drilling to cutting a hole in plaster/lathe.

I have a service coming up where I suspect the siding contains asbestos. It's an older house and I am guessing. I'm gonna try out the tile bit with the RotoZip.
Thanks for the tip!
