Hey Guys,
How do you add the additional 125 amp service box from your existing 200 amp service?? It has 24 spaces that are all taken. I need 2 more 20 amp CB. Please help.

You call your electrician, and you pay him to sort it out. This isn't the type of work that a flooring contractor need tackle.

mdshunk,
Are you always such a jerk?? Why are you always so self righteous??
I am more than just a flooring contractor. I live in an area where the decent electricians are so busy you cant get them. This is a project for my fishroom. If you dont want to help go away!! Can someone give this lowly contractor a little help??
Thanks

Re: Adding Remodel Panel

I tend to agree with MD. This is something that should be handled by a licensed electrician. But if you must know...

First you will have to check to make sure from the legend that the existing main panel is rated for twin breakers. If it's not you're really S.O.L. because the main buss could overlaod and cause a fire. This is the primary reason why you should contact a licensed electrician.

If your panel is rated for twins, then make sure you buy the same brand name circuit breakers that match the panels manufacturer. Avoid tampering with any 3-wire branch circuits that you may, or may not, have in your panel to avoid overloading a neutral conductor. This is also a good reason for contacting a licensed electrician.

Now that you've freed up the space necessary to fit your double-pole circuit breaker, what size load do you plan on having in your new panel? This will determine the size wire you'll need. The 125 AMP rating for the panel is a maximum rating for the buss bar, not necessarily the size breaker you will need.

Do you need more info or have you changed your mind yet and are considering getting someone who knows what they're doing?

No, just on certain occasions. This is one such occasion where it is warranted.

Then you must wait, so it would seem. Don't be so impatient.

I am helping you. You just don't realize it. This is absolutely one of those questions where, if you have to ask, you have no business messing around with it. Get on a sparky's schedule and sleep well.
