60 Degree Wire


Looking to replace some older 80's track lighting in my home with a newer version. The new lights say that the wire must be 60 degree Celcius wire, never heard of such a thing before. How do i find out if my current wire is sufficient to use? Thanks

60 degree C, you're good for a house built in the 80's. The newer romex is 90 degree C rated.

House was built in the 60's pops says the room never had ceiling lights unitl he had an electrician add it in the 80's the switch is outside of the room. Will this info be printed on the wire jacket? what should i be looking for

Yes, it will be printed on the sheathing. You don't need to look though. Any even remotely modern wire will be at least 60 deg C.
