50 Hertz Appliances
I have a potential client who wants to bring her washer & dryer from overseas. I think the appliances run on 50 hertz. I told her I would need to check with the manufacturer to see if running them here would be persmissable. I am guessing not. I meet with her tomorrow (10/3)
Any thoughts on this?

Re: 50 Hertz Appliances
Could be. I know the cord will have to be changed to a NEMA plug too.
I cant imagine why they would want to ship them all the way over here.

Re: 50 Hertz Appliances
Thanks Sparky-I've never run across this before. Will the supply house usually carry these?

Re: 50 Hertz Appliances
OK sparky, I think you got me. I followed your advice and did a little research and I think you know the result. But I may still try to sell her one!

Re: 50 Hertz Appliances
Motors are typically designed for a specific frequency:

Re: 50 Hertz Appliances
Not unless they're from Japan where many appliances are made 50/60Hz due to the fact they use both frequencies domestically. Even then, induction motor equipped appliances rated for 50/60 Hz don't always perform the same. Refrigeration machinery provide less power. Other devices might work just fine, but require changing belt positions.
Microwave ovens, things with induction motor and alarm clocks(many don't have crystals, they use power line as time base) are typically frequency specific. |
