3Phase 60hz 5 Wire Oven
From California,
I went out to take a look at a previous customer of mine that needed help installing a Revent Oven. the oven requires a 3phase 60hz 220V 5wire electrical connection. They are commercially zoned but only have two leads and a ground going into the weather head in the main service panel. Is this oven possible to hook up with their current set up? Thanks in advance. |

Re: 3Phase 60hz 5 Wire Oven
What does it draw???
This CANNOT be done unless they have a phase converter installed. Depending on what the oven draws and what size service they have will determine how feasible this is. WHY did they buy a piece of 3-phase equipment without first confirming they had 3-phase service with the capacity to handle it ??? Don't tell me, they got a bargain. Right? Well that just went out the window.

Re: 3Phase 60hz 5 Wire Oven
called Revent this morning, It must have a 3 phase panel to power it. Called the power company and they only have 1 phase going to property. They spent 20+k on the oven.
Also they purchased a dough mixer that is a 3 phase and I think it was about 10k. They have a tortilla machine and I wanted to check the specs for that but it was still wraped up and I didn't want to mess with it since it's not my business. These people have serious issues.

The phase converter is not a good idea. The best thing to do here is for the consumer to return the oven and buy a single phase oven. what is the kw rating? |

Re: 3Phase 60hz 5 Wire Oven
They currently have a 400 Amp single phase surface mount service panel.
There are probably 4 sub panels within the store. What would a qualified electrician charge for upgrading the service panel to a 3 phase and how many amps would you recommend? Last edited by y0manda; 09-11-2008 at 06:12 PM. |

Re: 3Phase 60hz 5 Wire Oven
I never said it was a good idea, in fact I don't think it is either. That is why I questioned whether it was even feasible.

What sort of moron drops 10's of thousands of dollars on kitchen equipment like that, without even being sure it can be accommodated? I guess this is a case of "you don't know what you don't know". They were probably truly clueless. It's all electricity, right?

No need to worry about kilowatt ratings with a gas oven. |

Re: 3Phase 60hz 5 Wire OvenYou do, however, need an Electrical hookup for the igniter! But these ovens come either way. G or E.

That three phase 120 volt oven receptacle is going to be hard to find.

Re: 3Phase 60hz 5 Wire Oven
I did all the electricity in the new bakery, also the framing, gas, tile, water, Drywall, FRP, Installed a 2,000+lb range hood, built the exhaust vent for the grease trap, and the make-up air fan/ducting. had the ansul system installed and filled the tanks. Even the plans called for 4 220v outlets in the bakery. So when I come to look at the oven to install I was shocked. He still owes me 8k and wont pay untill he gets the ok from the Health Department. Never knew that was part of the conditions. oh yeah. when I first went to look at the job, he showed me where the previous contractors that bailed out dug a hole and I can "tie" into for drains. LOL I should of known better, I ended up connecting the drain 90' away and cutting 30' of concrete and digging 5'.deep at the main. I didn't even charge him extra for that because my contract read I will do any necessary plumbing to connect floor drain and sink...... My mistake I learned from. OH WELL I am finished and want my fkn money

Re: 3Phase 60hz 5 Wire Oven
How can it be hardwired? It needs some sort of means of disconnect unless the circuit breaker is within sight.
Is the circuit breaker within sight? |
