200 Amp Generator Disconnect

Going to install a 200 amp generator transfer switch this weekend. It will be mounted beside the meter/breaker on the pole. I was wondering how long it usually takes to install it. I have never installed one. The homeowner wants a plug on the bottom of the transfer switch do you typically put a male plug in so they can plug in a small 6000-10000 watt generator?

Re: 200 Amp Generator Disconnect

In the title you mention a disconnct, yet you asked nothing about it in the post? You do need a disconnect ahead of the transfer switch, unless the switch is rated as such, or a means of disconnect is integral to the enclosure.

I would use a stock genset inlet box. This is a weatherproof enclosure with a male twistlock recessed inlet plug (NOT receptacle). DO NOT, repeat NOT, use a male to male cord with a "receptacle" inlet.

Time depends on you. Maybe a couple of hours for just the transfer switch/disc?
Another thing is that this is a pole. Is there any room to mount all this equipment? Or is it a pedestal with plenty of room?

Do you need a POCO shutdown? Or are you allowed to cut taps?
