Wearing Whites

O.K. gentlemen-here it is the new year-I am tired, sooo tired of recent posts-so I thought I would start a post of the new year that I need some input on. Does anyone still wear whites?-I do. I was brought up through the trade that way and find working in painter pants feels alot better than jeans like my workers wear. I gave them a $200 allowance when the started to buy 3 pairs of dickies, some t-shirts, and a nice pair of Wolverines. The one fat ass split 2 pairs of pants the first week, couldn't find boots, and took his mom to dinner(gotta love em'). The other found a pair of khakis and still wears nikes!-He thinks he knows better than me and when a screw goes through his foot-it's on me! I'm all ears.

Wait-up, hold on. You wear your workers jeans but prefer to wear painters pants. Simple, next year save some money and buy yourself a few pairs of painters pants.
Now can we go back to picking on each other???

All jokes aside, I hate wearing regular jeans too and have been wearing my own Wrangler/Carpenters pants forever because they are 10times more comfortable and seam to stretch easily and also hold up for a good year or too. I also got used to having my razor knife in the side pocket and when I wear my Levi's I am constantly reaching for my knife.

Re: Wearing Whites

The painter pants have the side pockets. The guys that work for me complained. They say they feel like they are working in "PAJAMAS" all day! If pajamas are so constricting-then work nude-{except for fat ass}-His crack shows all day. -on butt crack-especially hairy.UGGGH!!

Re: Wearing Whites

I don't wear whites but I don't wear Jeans either.

Dickies carpenter pants. They last forever, convenient side pockets and looks more professional.

To be honest, I never understood why painters wear white...paint comes in all colours.

Well unless your workers aren't menstruating(SP?)PURPLE .The only other color I would think that would come in contact with a taper , other than white, would be red (if you don't bleed as a taper you are scum)-brown ( from fecal matter kicked up from the outhouse), yellow -from urine extracted during the "You will work Saturday or lose your job!"-White was intended to hide being a sloppy worker flinging paint or drywall mud all over yourself. Whadya' know.

I have you beat. Chinos from Target $10.99 last for years, the pockets wear out first. Polo carpenters at Bells are killer shorts, still waiting to wear them out.

Re: Wearing Whites

My crew has it all- I prefer wrangler/carpenter jeans and craftsman work boots 1 guy wears reg. jeans and nikes.
1 guy wears sweat pants with a cloth apron to hold small items and reboks
1 guy wears dickie pants with timberland boots and the last guy on the finishing crew puts on a pair of white coveralls that are 2 sizes to big so he can move in them and has those velcro sneakers-hey-the guy is 61 years old, so i just leave him alone.

Re: Wearing Whites

FYI: Traditional workwear for plasterers is white. Shirts and pants. No pockets in front of either into which wet plaster could fall.

IMO, a boss should be able to enforce a dress code, ESPECIALLY shoes for safety.

Good freind of mine is a pianter and has been wearing blue jeans for too long - really filthy painty blue jeans. I've been on his case for years that appearance DOES matter. He is finally wearing whites and keeps them relatively clean - at least for interior work.

Re: Wearing Whites

You can't expect respect if you don't respect the job and the uniform that goes with it. Whites are not "hillbilly" like my guys want to think. No one is getting raises until I see them taking this job seriously.

Re: Wearing Whites

I wear white pants(got 30 pairs at the surplus store for 40 bucks, closeout)and the wallmart camoflauge tee shirts(3.00 each, so you KNOW how many of them I bought)
I agree that we should look the part, and I really like whites (and camo's) cause as they say I'm a three coat man(one on the wall, one on the floor, and one on me)

Alright boys, lets get to slinging!!!!!!!!!!
