Vinal Sheetrock Repair

I repaired some damaged walls in a manufactured home 3/8" sheetrock, vinal covered. I also removed the strips used to cover the seams between the panels. Several professionals said its difficult to tape over vinal and also not advisable to tape the seams without texturing the walls. I've done small drywall repairs but nothing this big and never over vinal. Don't want to spend the money to have the whole house textured by a pro. Would consider having the joints taped and accepting the risk

What about using a texture paint on the wall, Home Depot and several paint stores sell it. I could do the painting. I may decide to do one small room myself and try it, see how it looks. I've painted over vinal before using a special primer, no problem.

Has anyone repaired walls that are vinal sheetrock?

Any suggestions or comments?

Tnx

Joe

It's better to remove the vinyl if your gonna tape or texture it, but you can get a special primer from home depot but it's expensive, even with the special primer sealer you should still texture it. I don't know about textured paint, sounds cheezy in my opinion. Is this gonna be a rental or for an HO or what

My brother had a trailer and we took out all the vinyl and wood paneling then hung 3/8's then taped and mud, we sanded it out primed and painted, why would you want texture? other then you can't make a wall or ceiling flat and smooth If that's the case just by some cheap paint and have at it. Just remember it's a trailer
