USG Tools = Very Nice!

After reading how some of you had used USG's new sheetrock brand tools, I told my supplier to get some in. Well they had some USG reps come in last friday and gave some tools away. I got a pan with magnetic pad, 12, and 6 in knife. Used em finally today and the new pan with rounded bottom just kicks a55. The knives are in my top 3 for sure.

Funny thing was that they were saving a mud mixer for me and were all excited to give it to me. They said here ya go and I said...uh I already have one

USG did good. Pan really impressed me. I know it's just a pan but dang it's nice.

Nate

Good to know someone who has tried. You know how the reps can be. Everything they have is the best. Much better to hear from somebody like you.

Now I got to try that pan. Too many years holding my big pans have taken a toll. It's not too hard getting used to the round bottem?

Re: USG Tools = Very Nice!

Drywall1,

I could use a free mixer!

Seriously, $45 dollars here for one instead of $14 for a standard. It would really have to perform for me to pony up the cash. My Ames store "said they would talk to the rep" but it has been 3 months and nothing. They also said they would "call" about the Hurcule 42-60, but still haven't heard anything. Getting kind of tired of their lack of follow through and not keeping stock of stuff and being unaware of the new stuff. Same for Call Wall.

One a more positive note, the 12 inch stainless steel Sheetrock brand reinforced edge pans are on sale for $10.00 each.

Hey Brockster
Do you use the Apla Tech tools? They are right in your area. Just wondering your thoughts on the system.

No problem. They also gave me a magnetic pad for the bottom of the pan.

When you spend 30-45k a month on sheetrock they tend to give you a few things once in a while.

Besides if they don't I'm just a tool whore at heart.

Re: USG Tools = Very Nice!

If any of you "old timers" remember, I posted a thread about them when they(the knives) first came out. They were having a show for them at the local AMES TAPING TOOLS & I picked some up...

Well, USG must have been watching here on Contractor Talk, and sent me thier magnetic pad & sheetrock saw free BEFORE they ever came out on the market as a thank you for my promo. Awesome thank you, but I would have given the thumbs up for nothing..I wanted people to know there is a new front-runner in the industry.

They really are quality tools...however, they are just now starting to get broken in just right, though that is due to me hardly ever being in the field anymore. I have not tried thier new mixer yet, but it looks solid & I am sure it would do that job better than any other, even wallboard(though wallboard is a founding father of quality tools, and I will never give them up)

I would recommend USG SHEETROCK tools to any drywaller or construction pro that demands the best!!

No, but I was all geared up to buy a set after watching the video. I got lucky and watched a crew (who had used them for a while) use them. They loved them but I was not impressed.

A couple years back I went to their HQ and bought a plow for angle tapes and gave that thing away to a buddy of mine who always uses new guys. The new guys loved that plow. I just hated the mess it made.
Just goes to show you, what works for one crew doesn't always work for another.
I say before you buy, find a crew who use them and watch and see if you'd be happy with that kind of a system.

LOL! Yeah right. I did finally get an old beat up pump instead of the new one he "bought for one of his guys who then quit", but never got the gooseneck.

A guy can dream can't he? After all it is Christmas.

Thanks for the opinion. Unfortunately, I bought the set five years ago after watching the video. Wasn't especially impressed. Thought it was just me... It's hard to beat the boxes.

It's good to hear you like the boxes. Do you have to wipe down behind the boxes?

I follow the ten and twelve to touch up to the angles. And pull the line off the top or bottom of the butts. Just saves sanding between coats. How do you run them?

I was interested in the mixer but couldn't find one locally. I found this site while surfing. Drywalltoolsoutlet.com
