Troubleshooting Knockdown Texture

My deal is I'm using a compressor with a 150 PSI and a hopper to spray knockdown on the ceiling. I can't make a big splatter so does anyone know how much PSI I need to shoot big splatters on the ceiling?

Re: Troubleshooting Knockdown Texture

150psi is way too high, you don't have a regulator? If not get one and one on the gun as well so you can do it on the fly.

I have an air regulator on the gun but even with low pressure, I can't shoot big splatters on the ceiling. I can only make small ones.

You only need about 30 psi for knockdown don't know what type of gun you have but you need a bigger orifice for a coarser pattern.

Screams rookie.

Proper air pressure, correct orifice size and dial in the water to mud ratio.

For the thick heavy stuff I like to shake my gun/ hopper to keep it coming out evenly.

Did you try to square the deck before the drywall?

150psi!!! What kind of metric Xmas lights does your hopper use?

The problem is that your hopper can't throw the heavy joint compound far enough up with the little air pressure that you need to create the proper splatters.

You might be able to get the right texture by using a lighter powder texture mix like from USG: https://www.usg.com/content/usgcom/e...-textures.html

Or you could rent a bigger texture rig.
