Re: Texturing Celings
Maybe just a standard stimple/ stomp?
Knock down? Basically easiest to learn and look nice with basic tools. Thanks |

Re: Texturing Celings
mix up your topping real soupy and make sure when you roll its VERY even. you'll want ur roller to go about 7' when its full of mud for a nice even finish. stomp it with a crows foot texture brush and thats pretty much it. your stomper or roller will hit the wall so get on ur stilts with a full pan and skim in the top few inches of the wall (if u just wipe it off after it starts to setup its a bit more sanding). your but joints might need to be rolled again depending on how well they were finished- but this time roll with the joint to hide it.
knockdown- buy a knockdown knife (i think their like 16'' long? not positive) and after you stomp the ceiling, wipe from the center of the ceiling, outwards twords the wall. generally u want it to setup a few mins after it has been stomped to knock it down |

Re: Texturing Celings
I don't get many calls for textured, cause I do all smooth finish work, if it aint flat and smooth well, when it comes to textures I apply the topping with a textured roller skin, cause it will hold this most mud, I like to roll out at least half of the ceiling I'm working on, then I take a 14" knife and pull it smooth get all the low spots out. Then I have used a wallpaper brush and make half circles and run them across the ceiling like waves. I have used a 12" trowel and work the mud back and fourth, this look is some thing you have to see. but you can get swirles and some cool designs. Most of the textures after they dry, I take and lightly sand them with a pole sander, but it depends on the look I want. I am doing some Venetian Plaster in my back hall I'll post some pictures when I do it, I have the hallway posted at my site, I just put up Cornice mouldings.
But with the textures depending on the ceiling size, I use either ladders and planks, or a bakker to make it easier workin that area of ceiling. These type of ceilings take more work, but if you get a client who will let you do your thing, www.frankawitz.net |
