Texture Prices?

I am finding that with the horrible weather we have had lately (primarily the cold) we are taking on more aspects in the drywall field.I am debating on whether or not to take on a few small texture jobs to keep the money coming in and not starve. I have been asked to bid on 3 houses for hang, finish and texture. The hang and finish part I am having no problem with bidding., as a matter of fact I have already secured that part of the job, the builder is asking me to texture the ceilings, the brush/dab method. I am not sure what to charge or even begin to charge. Any suggestions would be great and appreciated. details for this are as follows. ceiling height 8', all flat surfaces. thanks again guys.

Thats just what I call it, it's where you use a brush to dab the ceilings with mud. I know ,I know it's just i'm not sure how to explain the process bettter..actually he called me yesterday and explained he might be more apt. for time reasons to use a hopper and gun.i'd prefer that better but either way I'm just looking for some general idea of what the going rate is. Thanks in advance guys..

Man 7 to 8 cents a sqft? when I did new homes back in the 1980's we use to get .43 a sqft to spray texture, but 7 to 8 cents this has to be the Illegal crew the price wouldn't even cover the cost of materials.

Re: Texture Prices?

Just to spray, no sanding and no material costs I worker as a sub contrator builder supplied evrything back then(1980's), I just did a job last summer for a homeowner who had a small house I sprayed the kitchen and hallway for $600.00 was done in 5 hours after materials and rental of machine to spray ceilings I walked away with 500 in my pocket. these people had another guy come in and he was going to do the same job for $4,500 and to think you think I am over priced, Please.

Re: Texture Prices?

We used a brush texture technique around here years ago, called it slap. Used a double oval splayed brush. Put the mud on with a roller then add texture with the brush. Gives a nicer texture than a hopper gun.

With a hopper gun you should be able to do a house in a day easy. With the slap, two men in a day.

I don't understand the guys who think $500 per day is inadequate. Thats $2500 per week, $125,000 per year. Seems like a lot for a drywaller.

A reasonably talented drywall crew can make $1000 per week per man at $.28 for labor to hang, tape, and texture. I see it done all the time. The good guys can double that. Of course it means hard work all day.

Re: Texture Prices?

A guy around here charges $1.45 / square foot... Includes labour and materials... That was for the knockdown texture, on 8' ceilings.

I would probably charge similar to that, plus add a setup/teardown fee, which will cover you for smaller jobs, so that you don't lose out.

Re: Texture Prices?

Allin1, mtl prices in NM should be the same. The rock might be just a little less because they make it here. I supply all materials and hire labor. Don't do additions and remodels anymore, so the prices I pay are for clean new work, rock is stocked even on the second story.
