Tapeing Estimates In New England

Does anyone know if mudding and tapeing pricing is done by square ft., 4x8 sheet, or hourly in New England. I amm about to get estimates for a 23 x 13 play room I just finished and have no clue what it might cost.

Thanks Mark

If it's a nice rock job they will probably give you a sq.ft. price, if they have alot of extra work cause of a poorly rocked job they'll probably go hourly.

Re: Tapeing Estimates In New England

Got two estimates. First guy walked in took a quick look and said $1250.00.

Second guy came in looked a lot longer, asked how many sheets (52 4 x 8) and said $700.00.

I hired number two and he did quality work.

So on the 4th you stated you were about to get estimates for taping your playroom. Now on the morning of the 8th I read that he did great work which would lead me to believe that the job is finished. Did he do three coats, come back do sanding and spot check it? Just wondering.

Is it just me, or does 52 sheets of 4x8 drywall seem like alot for a room that's 23x13?

Re: Tapeing Estimates In New England

I am new to this forum(as of tonight). I am in CT. I just started out on my own the past year or so, I am working with a part time general contractor
and he usually gets drywall priced out by the sheet, not the sq. ft.
I believe it is roughly $27.00 a sheet to hang and tape, on the average side.
Some guys he has used get as much as $35.00 per sheet.

We did two ceiling soffits. One was 1 foot wide the other 6 feet to accomodate the HVAC. There are 3 closets also.

Re: Tapeing Estimates In New England

I agree, 52 sheets does sound kinda on the high side for a room that size, 1,664 feet of board, when I would figure a room of that size at about 1,196 feet of board. But some people don't know how to use their board to get the most out of it (like some of my hangers ).

Also I'm new to the forums and find some of the topics here of interest and look forward to giving input on the way things are done here is Mid-Michigan, it's amazing how things differ from state to state, but the end product is always the same...

Just the difference in pricing from Ma. and NH is amazing.I live 30 miles south of the nh border and get at least .60 more a square foot on my plaster jobs.I dont even bother estimating anywhere but the north shore of ma.

I live in CT as well. Mostly per sheet, anywhere from 25.00 to 50.00 per sheet.

How much if it's textured. Let's say imperfect smooth.
