Strapping

I have strapped a 12x16 room with 1x4 as the joist were way off.
Using 12' 1/2" drywall. I am securing with 1 1/4 screw every 8 inche.

Would it be over kill to use two screws every 8 inches instead of one?

Also I was advis to hang the wall prior the ceiling as I have a 1/2" to make up and the wall thickness will do this!

Any, "nice" comments appreciated.

God Bless
John

1. It wouldn't be overkill. Not needed, but...not "overkill"

2. You can hang the walls first. It's just easier when you hang the ceiling first to get tight joints. I have hung walls first in the past though for various reasons.

Quite simple - this is a garage / main house you are re-rockin, & you obviously haven't done it before

Bring in a crew - they will have it done 3 to 4 times faster than you & looking allot better for a fraction of the cost

You won't have a hernia, wont have wasted 2 to 3 weeks of your time, and won't lose any resale value due to ugly walls, etc...

Oh & ceilings first, walls second except for some weird cases

Ceilings 1st .....99.999999999999% of the time!
I'd start off with a couple scrap pieces (Against The Wall Ur Starting On) to butt the ceiling to & remove after 1st run was completed. This will makeup ur 1/2 & leave a 1/2 gap @ the end. (If the structure is square). Trust us, it a ****load easier to do that then to hang the walls & then ceilings. Hope that helps & Good Luck!
