Sanding with ear plugs

I am working with a guy who when he sands he puts in ear plugs.
I asked why. He said " The ears, nose and mouth are connected."
I see putting on a mask when you sand but ear plugs.
I never hear of it before.
Does anyone else do it or have heard of it?

I personally have never heard of that before, the only plugs I put in my ears are for my ipod !! When I sand I listen to music as it makes the process a little more tolerable..

It's probably because he has a very
large empty cavity between his ears.
He wants to be very careful that
nothing gets in there!

A course we do. We need something to get our mind going. Looking at walls and ceiling all day drives you nutty.

It's only full blast when finishers want to get chit done and not be bothered, or just to drive people off the job because they're getting in the finisher's way.

I can't stand the sound of sanding. Fingernails on a chalkboard. For that reason I've always used earplugs. Also dust gets everywhere, especially when sanding ceilings, and they prevent nasty earwax buildup. Of coarse this means the radio needs to be louder but hey... I'm a taper

Blame the boarders

No it's those rockin boarding crews, like to play it loud and proud so they can slap the board up in a big hurry. I see the tempo gets them into slamming boards around till they break corners etc and results in more work for tapers.

My boss was messin with a new kid, first day on the job
and starts him out sanding... the kid asked him for
goggles, so my boss goes to his truck, brings out the
goggles, ear plugs, big earmuffs that landscapers use,
and a plastic net he had laying around his truck for over
his head. The kid put it all on, sanded the entire day
with it on and thanked my boss again and again
for it, poor kid had no idea.

I wear ear protection when I can. i actually have more sensitive hearing than others and the high pitch noises cause me some pain in the head. I also don't want to be the old guy that you have to scream at four times so I can hear you...eehhh sonnny?

Sanding with earplugs

I find it is easier to sand with sandpaper. Those earplugs seem to soft to be used for sanding.

Someone had to say it.

A you kidding? Ears-nose-throat are connected with some inner channels. After all there is one denomination of profession that treats these problems - laryngology.

Its great idea wearing gloves! Mud goes on the walls better from your box then your hands
