Quick Price Question

I have a buddy who has a strip mall building, the building is 1300 Square Feet. It has 2700 Sq Feet of rock on 9' walls. Rock is hung and materials are supplied.

Is .60 a Square foot a fair price for 1300 Sq Ft of ceiling ready for texture & 2700 Sq Ft of 9' walls?? $2400??

I know you all hate these questions but I dont want to rip my buddy off.

Re: Quick Price Question

Sound about fair since they hung it themselves.

Re: Quick Price Question

Depends how many mexicans are around, my boss gets paid 13.5 cents a foot (tape/finish/sand/texture/cleanup) but his twin brother in PA gets 40 cents a foot for the same job, both are subs.

Re: Quick Price Question

Thanks Guys. I told him .55 on ceiling and .60 on walls.

I CANT IMAGINE doing this job for 13.5 cents.....that would be less than $600...and I am having doubts at $2250!!

Re: Quick Price Question

Yes, he is providing all materials.

Simple....I charged less for ceilings because I just had to tape them...no sanding, texture guy is doing that.
These walls have to be perfect, sanded and ready for primer. I figured walls should pay more than it does.

Re: Quick Price Question

Your prices seem kind of high for the service you are providing, however, I don't know where you are located.

If you can get those prices, get them, I'm all for it. I could make a TON of money at those rates.

And one thing I hate is underbidding. Never underbid. It's killing us all.

I went to a job today, that was being hung. When I told that guy $.40 to finish. He went off. Guys are doing it for alot less. Like $5.50 to hang and $6.75 to finish per board. And all the above 10' was done for free. Then told me that I should drop price. As i walked away.... I work for a living not a wage.

He did say that Hose A was rock and finish for that price.

Good for you passing that up. No need to sell yourself into indentured servitude. I don't see .40 as being unrealistic. Let Paco kill himself (and do a subpar job).

Re: Quick Price Question

This is the reality we live in right now ,we each have to draw a line and say we won't work for less than "x" , but if it's the differance between puttin' bread on the table or staying home earning nothing , I guess we all have to answer that for ourselves.
supply and demand rules the day out there.

Re: Quick Price Question

At $.60 you'd be laughed at here. $0.32/sf will get labor to hang, tape, texture, and dispose of all debris.
