The New EPA Lead Requirements.

I'm sure you're all on top of this, right?

http://www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/renovaterightbrochure.pdf

"Also, beginning April 2010, federal law will require contractors that disturb
lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities and schools, built before 1978
to be certified and follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. Therefore beginning in April 2010, ask to see your contractor’s certification."

Yeah someone tried to sell me a sign up for a lead based paint lead removal class at an MBA meeting. Cost for the class, about $300. I'm going to take my chances for now and assume I won't get fined for not being certified. But taking the class and getting certified will be on my list of things to do.

Here the classes are $200 and the place I have been talking with told me I can pay the $200 for the Lead Base Paint and they will throw in the Asbestoes Abatement class for Free. I would check around for a better price. As for going without the Certificate boy that could be playing with Fire, at $32,000 that's a hell of a Fire I wouldn't want to fight in this economy

Keep in mind that you may not even be able to bid on some work or work for GC's that require it either.

Your from Iowa and Iowa passed tougher rules than the Feds You must follow the regs if you distrub an area larger than 3"x4"..NOT FEET.

"
the regulation does not cover work that disturbs less than 0.1 square foot
(approximately 3 inches by 4 inches) of paint. "
