Need Advice In Nebraska

I am a taper in omaha nebraska. I have about 11 years of high end resedential taping experience. I am a foreman of an 8 man crew.

I have decided to start subcontracting. what advice do you have on staying busy, and what kind of money a 2 man crew should be able to make.

Re: Need Advice In Nebraska

The minute you go into business for yourself you will find yourself spending less and less time on the job.Gotta have reliable help. GO WITH THAT. Old habits are gonna be hard to break but you will need to be selling, bidding, measuring, negotiating and working the phones all at the same time if you wanna have another job to go to when the current one is done. YOU GOTTA ANSWER THE PHONES !!! If a customer gets your machine, they will call the next drywaller on their list and you missed your oppurtunity. Also....I hope you are a masterful negotiator. If not-LEARN. Naming your price and walking doesn't cut it in business. You have to aggressively get the work...no contractor just "gives" you a job-you gotta take it. Be very pushy.Even with collections. The bottom line....if you just thought good honest workmanship and a decent price will get you there-YOU ARE WRONG. BE PUSHY!! AGGRESSIVE. Many a builder has told me"hey, the last guy just gave me his price and stood there"....now me....I used to stock houses and just have my guys start hanging it with or without the builders ok....lol TRUE. I told them what is the problem? I am gonna do a better job, faster and cheaper...what's the problem?? That's how I got my start. No one "gave" me a start, I took it.

Are you a taper or a finnisher? Just messing with you. Welcome to the site. Read around the site and you'll pick things up that you didn't even know. It's tough around here. If you do good work, with a good attitude, finding work shouldn't be a problem.
