Mark V & Smooth
Do any of you guys use the Mark V to spray mud on the wall for smooth wall finish? If so, do you wipe down with a knockdown knife? Does it work?
I have been in the drywall business all my life and just recently people are asking for smooth in our area. We are frustrated with the different primers that are supposed to be so good. Still see the flash in high light areas. |

Re: Mark V & Smooth
I use a mark lv, I spray it on the wall and leave it, no wipeing. It leaves a glassy feeling, kinda like plaster feels. works great, it will solve the flashing problem, it will solve the " I can still see that joint on the cieling when the suns just right " problem also

Re: Mark V & Smooth
Thank you Captain Sheetrock, for the reply. Very good to know! I will try it. Wonder if my Graco 1495 would spray mud... May have to bump up to a Mark IV or V.

Re: Mark V & Smooth
Don't know if your graco would spray mud or not, heck , try it and see.
I use the tip that came in the gun with the mark IV, 425 if I'm reading that right. I use black lid proform mud mainly, but I spray any mud that I'm using, don't see much differance in any of it. |

Re: Mark V & Smooth
We usually use a 1231 tip to spray primer on, I will try it with mud. I assume you thin the mud to about the same as a primer would be.
Thanks for your help. |

Re: Mark V & Smooth
your welcome,
I thin the mud to about "stomp" consistencey, thats a little thicker than primer, but I'm sure you can thin it as much as you like, the markIV will spray it right out of the bucket, without even drillin it, but thats a bit much, lol. |

Re: Mark V & Smooth
Thanks Capt, got it.
BTW, the "Air Atomizer Kit" for texture that you get with the MarkIV-V can be a real pain so if anybody needs help I've got it finally sorted out. The techs from Graco are less than helpful on this subject.
