Learning To Do Material Take-offs?

I cater to Drywall, framing, insulation, and acoustical ceiling needs. I am really inspired to provide take-offs for my general contractors, and counties who buy direct, and don't normally do the take-offs. I am curently considering investing in the OnScreen software, but wanted to know what would be a good way to start learning that ability..

You must be a supplier/salesman. Sure there is software out there somewhere, but everyday estimators will tell you that there's no shortcut for eyes on estimating.

Re: Learning To Do Material Take-offs?

We have a 3rd party sub-contractor that heps us when we need estimates. He just happens to take several days to get them back to us since he does it on the side. I think I will just take some old plans home and see if that helps me start geting familiar.. I can do basic ones, but I have big jobs in the works that I don't want to drop the ball on..
