Labor Rate To Hang Rock

With the economy tightening even more, have you guys had to lower your prices to hang rock from 6 months ago?

What's the latest rates aroung the country? Assuming residential with not more than 10' ceilings.

Also, how do you per sq ft hanging price on a second layer over the first? Curious if anyone gets more for the second.

Thanks

Re: Labor Rate To Hang Rock

here in northern bc we are .28 to .40 bf, and you charge the same for the first layer as the second layer..it takes just as much time if not more for the second with the longer screws...you can go a little less time on the first layer, and spend the time on the second, so it evens out in the long run...

Thanks guys. J, when you say "bf" I assume you mean square foot? I think of lumber when I hear board foot.

Lake forest area. Had a small crew come in to do some touch up work(home owner called them without me knowing). They hung 12 sheets then got it to primer ready level 5 and charged the home owner 5500 bucks. the home owner paid him cash and left. Home owner was really happy with the work and I thought it looked like shet but to each there own. I would of hung and got it to level 5 myself if I knew they were going to pay them that much. Rich people gotta love em.

I think some of the reason being is the union guys are extremely strong in the northern part and well I know a bunch of guys who do union drywall work and they get 35-40 bucks a board primer ready so that tosses all the prices up.

Re: Labor Rate To Hang Rock

Had a GC today want to take off for scrap.
I told him I gave you a sq. foot price of board stocked!
This is a hang and finish job with all windows with drywall returns.
All kinds of corner bead and tear a way. What a dick
It is a 1000 board job

Re: Labor Rate To Hang Rock

Had a guy try to take off for scrap? hah what a joke a contract price is a contract price no matter what you had to use the boards to get what you hung. Unless he provided board and you scrapped on purpose to make more money now thats a different story.

Re: Labor Rate To Hang Rock

my normal rates, the GC/HO supplies materials, i do lots of new construction residentials..

board - .45-.50 - goes up with high ceilings
tape - .65- goes up if there's anything fancy or lots of bead

board and tape, ready to prime - 1.00-1.10

board, tape , prime - 1.45-1.60

I always sub out the taping, unless the boys are busy, but treat those tapers well because a good ones hard to find! when im paying my tapers i generally start at .50 sqft and it goes up from there depending on the job...

Re: Labor Rate To Hang Rock

Wow! The rates in BC are outrageous! I pay my hangers .13 SF & they supply fasteners, glue, Workers Comp. too. I pay .01 SF to pitch scrap (&sweep), .03 if I have to have hauled. Taping starts @ app. .15 SF & goes up. Mine will spray & sand for .05 & .05
