Keeping Sprayer Thawed

Does Anyone Have Any Advice On Keeping Your Sprayer From Freezing? Winter Is On Its Way-and From The Garage To The Jobsite Can Do A Number On Them. I Generally Run Kerosene Through It The Last Step After Pumping It Out With Water. I Close The Pump Valve To Keep It Full. I Have A Hydrapro Iv(gas) And Pump Out Of A 55 Gallon Drum. I Need Some Advice Also On A Smaller Sprayer For Basements And Additions- (electric)-what Do You Recommend?

I always run mineral spirits through mine, keeps them lubed up and protects from freezing as well.

mineral spirits mixed with 30 weight oil. Leave that in the pump, drain the hoses after each use.

Re: Keeping Sprayer Thawed

anti-freeze (ethylene glycol)

or Calcium Chloride powder could be mixed into your material.

Either of these will lower the freezing point.

You could just move south.

Exactly the reason to invest in a backup pump. I had a packing blow right in the middle of a spray job once, happened on a weekend, naturally couldn't find parts. Decided right there and then to purchase a second pump. It's just a little Graco 395, but at least it will pump paint if the big one goes down, and I have actually found it handy to use on smaller jobs rather than hauling out the big one.

Re: Keeping Sprayer Thawed

We use a 7 x 16 enclosed trailer to store and keep tools on the job-site. we put any tapetech tools that may freeze in the trailer at the end of the day and place a small electric heater in the trailer to keep the trailer at a constant 50 degrees. we also run kero reddy-heaters on a thermostat set at 45 in the house to keep the compound on the drywall from freezing. we work in residental housingand this has worked quite well for us.
