How Much Would You Charge To Hang And Finish This Vaulted Ceiling?

This ceiling is 19 feet off of the floor, an oval shaped barrel 40 feet long,8 feet wide and has 5 oval shaped cross vaults. oval is 80 inches across the short axis, and is 53 inches up from the spring line, the sharpest radius is 34" at the peak of the oval. How long would it take and how much to charge?

Is that job in the US? Is it commercial?

I would say around $65.00 an hour plus a helper at 25.00 an hour and I would say looking at your picture it should take 35 hours to hand ribbed metal lath, then it will be ready to plaster, basecoat then 2nd coat and finish coat altogether with plaster around 6,750.00

Am I the only one confused here? I thought that was some kind of church hallway or government building hallway. Why would a farmhouse go through the added trouble/expense of an arched ceiling? I thought they were "simple" structures. Here is wikipedia's page on them... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farmhouse

The framing does not look like any type of farm house I've ever done.
On a project like that I would have to talk to the GC and do it on time and materials. I would have guys tied up there for a while and with something like that if you get some messed up framing you just added a bunch of time on that you were not counting on. good luck with that project.

What Fat John is not telling you is that he is working on patenting his own drywall bending machine that he invented. He already has this job hung.

I think he just wants to see how much people WITHOUT his machine would charge to do this job.

I can't wait to see his machine when it finally comes out. It should be interesting to say the least.

They farm about 8000 acres and run lots of cattle, they work hard and the farmers wife has greaty taste, it will be the nicest house in happy.
That is only one of serveral custom ceilings in this nearly 8000 square foot house.

So John is what Greg said true? I would do all the arches in plaster, as for hanging sheetrock what does your machine do soak the board down so you can bend it, I have done radius walls in the past and we always had to soak the board, but now they have board that is made just for jobs like your, you don't need a machine to bend it. This ceiling will look sweet when your done Good Luck.

Frank;

Part of what greg said is true, althoght I havent hung the ceiling yet, we are waiting for the General contractor to get the home dried in first. My bender dosent wet the drywall to bend it, and yes i am working on a patent for the bender, before I bring it to market, it will easily bend 1/2" standard drywall to radius at least as tight as 30".

I am very interested!! Can't wait to hear more details. You could do some cool stuff with 30" radius.

Re: How Much Would You Charge To Hang And Finish This Vaulted Ceiling?

We have a fancy barrel ceiling to do next week.
A bender would be kinda cool but personally I think I would fore go the expense of one and just get the new bendable drywall from one of the local suppliers. Not sure what it would cost but I dont buy too many tools that would sit in storage more than would get used.
Wish you the best of luck.
Please post info when available.
