How To Attach Drywall To Brick Wall

Hi,
I am doing a bid for an old warehouse/store in Inglewood, CA. The owner wants all walls drywalled. The existing walls are exposed brick. How would this be done?
Thanks for any help.

Or, curtain wall it with 2x2 steel stud & track. (no messing around with shims & wavy brickwork)

Re: How To Attach Drywall To Brick Wall

If you're going to go wood nailed/screwed into mortar go for the 2*2's. Savant's idea would make sure it's straighter.

If it's a hack job you can even go PL directly onto brick, 1/2" dry. I have done a lot of stucco wall cover ups with 1/4" but brick is too inconsistent.

There you have the good, the bad and the ugly

Re: How To Attach Drywall To Brick Wall

Tony....I was at this job site a couple weeks ago where the drywallers had this same problem. Right away the fellow from england suggested the dot&dab method, which is obviously popular over there. But not being sure of where to get the dot&dap mud here they asked to use some of my multi-purpose drywall mud, which as I predicted, was in no way capable of holding up a 14 foot high piece of drywall! So what kind of mud/adheisive is normally used for this method?

Metal ribbed lath nail to the brick then Portland cement, sand and then mix your plaster and skim the wall done deal about two days work.

In the UK, the adhesive is referred to as either Bonding compound, or Drywall adhesive. It is very sticky, and sets extremely hard. It is also very brittle.

Would you leave it smooth or float the finish?

Re: How To Attach Drywall To Brick Wall

Id build a 2x4 curtain wall and up sell them on more insullation. If there concerned with loosing 4" of space (per wall) then go with Frankawitz idea.

any of above stated methods, we usally dab mud on the back of the drywall and press firmly. done many times, still holding after years.

Seriously, you have really used mud to attach the rock to a wall? All purpose?

Re: How To Attach Drywall To Brick Wall

It works like a metal rop ceiling. you run 25mm track on the bottom and top and plumb and level it. you slide the f****** intermediate studs and brace em to the wall

you guy probably have this system over there and it is lighter to use, because i heard girls do the drywall over there

abso****in
no way will mud hold a board to the wall.
i have seen a foam in a can that will do it and you get about 9 boards a can. its like spray foam, they keep saying they want to make it easier and they do. its just knowone sees the change coming.
