Re: Hopper Vs. Machine??

Most of my work has been with a hopper lots of doublewide close-offs, I'm gonna be doing homes and commercial jobs now and from what I've heard the graco rtx 1500 is optimum for homes on a regular basis. Its on sale at ames right now for $1800. If I could swing the cash I would probably get a graco mark V. You might want to check the kodiak too. How big was the job you used the tx65 on?

Re: Hopper Vs. Machine??

I picked my graco RTX1000 up on ebay, brand new for $550.00, it was a $1200.00 unit. Found out the reason they did away with that model is the gun was prone for failure, and the new guns are better. I am replacing the gun, will be in this week. I have used Hopper/compressors and they truely suck compared to this unit. I hope you decide to spend the money and get one.. they are worth every penny.

Re: Hopper Vs. Machine??

the job i did consisted of spraying light orang peel on ceilings and walls. the tallest ceiling was 14ft and the tx65 did have some trouble delivering the mud that height. it cost about $375. the next step up is about $650. times are slow so i'm reluctent to spend it, BUT what happens when i want to spray popcorn??? will it just fail???!! man....decisions, decisions... i think i'll just fork over the extra $300 and have something worthwhile. any thoughts/???

If the budget is tight, consider building your own rig.

Check out the homemade gigs @ DRYWALL TALK.

Look under drywall textures.

You're a remodel-er so you already have a compressor, RIGHT. You can use the gun & hose from the TX. All you need is a 1" diaghragm pump & a barrel.
