Help Deciding On Tools To Keep Or Sell
Over the last month or so, I've been trying to piece together a nice taping set by watching deals here and there. Now I've actually bought a few too many items and need some help deciding what to sell off.
The first box I bought was a 12" Tapetech box which seems to be in pretty decent condition. ![]() Then I found an auction with a 10" and a 12" Concorde box together and ended up purchasing them. ![]() The 12" Concorde box is missing the faceplate. Does anyone know where I would find this piece to replace? Below is a picture of the 10" faceplate. ![]() THEN, while searching craigslist, I found a guy selling 3 box handles, a pump, a 10" box and a 12" box PLUS a carrying case for it all for $300.00. These are all Tapeworm tools. ![]() The only problem I can see with these boxes is that when the lid is fully depressed, the rubber seal does not seem to keep complete contact with the box. There is about an 1/8" gap as shown below: ![]() Will replacing the seal fix this? Last of all, I was hoping to hear what you guys think on the different brands, etc. Have any of you ran the Tapeworm boxes, and if so, how did you like them? I'm not sure which boxes to keep or to sell! |

Re: Help Deciding On Tools To Keep Or Sell
Do your self a favor and buy new, unless you are proficient at maintaining and setting up your tools. Concorde was bought out a long time ago by Ames I do believe. You may still might find parts for them , but Im not sure.
I have no experience with tape worm, but you will be able to find parts for them. That tape tech box , from the picture looks like it has seen some better days. You also may want to check and see if those handles brakes still work and the pumps seals are all working. I find that people who are selling their tools often do so because they no longer leave a desirable finish, or are broken. The cost of replacing the worn parts will be a little bit cheaper than buying new, but again, unless you know how to properly set up your tools, and this means taking time on the job to do this, it is cheaper to buy new. Just my opinion. |

Re: Help Deciding On Tools To Keep Or Sell
Well, the tapeworm set I bought was from the son of a finisher who recently passed away. The set is VERY clean, except one brake which is a little rusty, there is 8 new breaks included with the set, and also a full pump seal kit. I will probably keep this set, however I am still a little concerned about the gap between the wiper and the box when lid is depressed completely.
