Re: Health Insurance

I am not a contractor but this may be interesting to you.
I am retired and on medicare and have a health plan.
I pay about $92.00 for medicare and would have paid $133.00 for the health plan this year, for a total of $225.00 per month. But I went for cheaper coverage of $59.00 for the health plan.

The point I am making here is that the chances of me getting sick because of age, is greater then some young buck. But I wonder if the insurances companys figure that the chances of you getting hurt are greater then me. Ain't living a bitch.

Health costs for the working man are out of control.
The above is for single coverage.

Re: Health Insurance

My plan is major medical only with as large of a deductible as they will give. If it's $10,000 or less I can handle it. If it's $1,000,000 that'll hurt. Insurance is to protect from the catastrophes, not from the nicks and cuts.

The reson health costs are out of control is that we took marketplace economics out of the factor. If you look at things like plastic surgery, which people pay for themselves, the prices actually come down. Whenever there is a 3rd party paying... a group policy or us tax-payers, prices have skyrocketed.

Medicare is simply another tax-payer subsidized welfare program. It's not based on marketplace economics. It's a government social program. NOTHING the government does is cost-effective or efficient. It's just that you aren't paying for it.. the rest of the tax-payers are. I'm not picking on you personally... you're simply taking advantage of the program. My beef is with the government for misleading people when they start up all these programs. Social-Security is no different. The new Prescription Drug Plan will be even worse... with future generations paying for billions of dollars of drugs for the baby boomers.

The reason its out of control, is for profit health care. At least in my state. I just turned 50 so my payments rose $131 dollars a month.

Goverment social progarms are part of it, but when a CEO makes 15, mil a year with 25 mil in benifits, and the health care company made a huge profit, what does that say? Wish I could rasie my rates like taht for my business, belive I run my business like a business not a hobby.

I dont see any light at the end of the tunnel, health care will be unaffordable for what's left of the middle class, very soon.

Like I have said before with these Doctors who take the Oath, Does it say you the New Doctor can make more money then GOD? Between the Lawyers and the Doctors these are two groups who need major regulations put in place. Cut the Doctors liability Insurance costs would come down take all Lawyers and drop them in the ocean with large weights strapped to their asses bye bye!

Re: Health Insurance

Equipment & Safety > Health & Safety
health insurance this was a good thread

I snapped my ankle a few months ago and i was glad i had the insurance . I found that it depends on where you live in the country NJ the cost for my wife and I are over $1200.00 per month . THE thought has occurred on numerous occasions about dropping the plan and just putting the money in a good CD and pay it out of their when something really bad happens but it does not mathematically work out . I checked into the prices in VA for us it is cheaper but is like socialized medicine that from what i was told it wouldn't pay without a separate policy for diabetic.I guess I'm no different than any one else I add this in to how much I have to make per year to pay for this .

Re: Health Insurance

Medical Savings Account, also called Health Savings Accounts, with Reinsurance, is the wave of the future. Google those names for lots more info.

In a nutshell, instead of paying those huge premiums to your insurance company, you put them in YOUR MSA/HSA bank account. Then you buy reinsurance out of that money to cover your MSA/HSA in the event of a catastrophic event. This reinsurance would not kick in until your MSA/HSA has been depleted.... BUT.... if you don't have any health problems for a few years, you can actually start withdrawing some of your "Savings" and convert it back to your wallet! This puts you in control. You check for the best prices on doctors visits, prescriptions, etc. You'd be surprised at how much cheaper medical treatment becomes when they find out you don't have a bottomless pit insurance card for them to milk!

When enough people are using these MSA/HSA accounts, instead of just plopping the Insurance Card, Medicare Card, Medicaid Card, etc., down and telling the doctor, hospital or pharmacy, "I don't care what it costs, charge it to THEM!", then you'll see the marketplace economics come back into healthcare and prices will stabilize.

MSA's and HSA's put YOU back in control of your health care costs, instead of government bureaucrats or supposedly over-paid CEO's. I never complain about private sector pay or regulating it because my pay might be next!

Let the marketplace work to control the private sector. YOU have a choice not to deal with a company/hospital/etc. who overpays their CEO. YOU don't have a choice when government waste is the culprit.
