Gotta Love Old School Materials And Workmanship
Is old gyprock from the 50's as good as cement board today for shower areas? I'm gutting an old bathroom and the gyprock under the tiles in the shower/bathtub is in excellent condition. It's 1/2" and solid as a rock and really hard and messy to pull out. It goes up to the ceiling which is higher than code(5 ft. then greenboard to ceiling).

Re: Gotta Love Old School Materials And Workmanship
I've run into this before and always replaced it just as a precautionary measure and to come up to current code. I, personally, don't find fault going over it. It's already made it 50 yrs and is still in good cond., most of what you're going to replace it with hasn't had that time trial.
